I offer private tintype sessions with my portable darkbox at an outdoor location of your choice in Milwaukee and surrounding areas. To inquire about scheduling a session, please complete the form linked below. Because the wetplate collodion/tintype process requires specific conditions to create a successful image, this form will help determine whether I'm a good fit for your vision.

Here are some important points that are required for a successful shoot:

  • I set up my darkbox out of my vehicle and need to be close to it during the shoot. Please keep this in mind when considering locations.

  • Tintypes depend on strong UV light. The ideal timeframe for UV is generally between 10am and 4pm (this will shift as the season progresses). Depending on the number of plates you would like made, we need to start no later than 1pm. I arrive an hour or so early to set everything up and make a test plate to hone in the exposure time.

  • Portraits are best shot in shade; direct sun tends to be too harsh.  Please observe the location you have in mind to see what time of day shade is available and we can book the session around that time.

Prices are determined by location, the number of plates you would like made, and the complexity of the shoot. My general price ranges are below; these prices include travel to your location, post-photo shoot varnishing of your tintypes, and shipping of the plates to your home (or drop off if local).

  • 4”x5” size - $85-105/each- 3 plate minimum

  • 5”x7” size - $115-135/each- 2 plate minimum

Custom packages are available.
